Default De-cat and then . . . ?

I'm going to put a Fuel Moto head pipe on my '13 RK as a result of my right thigh temps measuring in excess of 125 degrees. My indie tuner says that if I run this without the addition of a Power Commander V and a dyno tuning, it will be way too lean and will self-destruct within 47 feet. At least I think that's what he said. This addition will cost me something like $550.00. So I went to my dealer and they said meh, a re-tune would be nice but not mandatory.

I'm trying to keep my incremental costs down and if I can do one thing at a time, my checking account will be happier. But if I have to add the tuner to the pipe now, wouldn't I be better off self-installing a $850 ThunderMax Auto Tune instead of returning to a tuner every time I change a component - add a SE Heavy Breather later, for example?

I really don't know who to believe or which way to go. Probably each is right to some degree or another. Your opinions will be appreciated. Thank you.

Just changing the head pipe only eliminates the cat. I don't think a retune is in order if you're keeping the stock mufflers. I'm going to do the same thing. I just want the cat gone and see what she feels like after that. Maybe add Xieds to richen it up...But I'm keeping the stock mufflers.

In my case, removing the cat made me notice the heat on my thigh. When the heat from my ankle area was lessened, the heat from the rear head was more noticeable. I drilled out the cat and added new mufflers. I did not do anything else. I have read that the ECM would retune it like it was from the factory. After 500 miles, no problems to report. Everything is the same, except for the wonderful sound I know hear.

Put on a set of Vied's or Xied's from Nightrider. The ECM flash still has the bike running way too lean.....all it really does is raise the rev limiter. These will get the fuel mix where it needs to be for the bike to run well. Check with Nightrider and/or other threads.

Default Power Commander V

Granpita, I have a new PC V for sale. Ill take $375 and ship. You don't have to Dyno. Dyno Tech has downloadable maps for free for your setup.

Spend the coin and get a Powervision. There's no sense in using a PCV and disconnecting the O2 sensors....Your bike will run better in closed loop than open loop.

XIEDs are a joke. $5 worth of Radio Shack parts you pay $100 for and the don't do a damn thing other than fool the ECM into thinking you're running leaner than you are.

If xieds are just a joke then why do so many people on hear including me swear by them? They do trick the computer into thinking the engine is running lean which makes the computer add more fuel which takes care of the lean condition. They don't sound like a joke to me.

My O2 sensors are not dis-connected and running Power Commander V just fine.
