I have a 95 glide 80 cidoes anybody have any ideas on what would cause carburetor to backfire or act like its not getting enough fuel could also be a plug wires or oil not working properly
We need to know if the bike has been sitting for a while?. If it has, the carb might need to be cleaned. How old is the gas? Running lean will cause backfire or sneezing in the carb. An air leak can cause the same response.Try spraying wd40 around the manifold and see it changes the way it runs. Always check for the free to easy things to fix, before throwing money at parts that don't fix the problem.,,
correct on what plug wires and coil it only seems to do it on the low end
your carb has two jets, one for idle and the main jet. Its sounds like your idle jet could be partially blocked. Try running some Seafoam through a tank of gas, go from idle to throttle, vary the throttle settings to see if it clears up.
I've changed the pilot just to 845 this thing is been running great I got called in a rainstorm it has an open air cleaner the bike backfired and then died and I had a hard time to get it to start I change the plugs that seemed to help but it still wants to spit and sputter on low and until you get riding on a hard and then its like it cleans up
Yep what they said.
Start with the basics new plug wires, plugs.
Then try to replicate the problem with a garden hose while the bike is running, start with the coil.
Do each area in a systematic pattern, until you find it.
