How much lower/shorter was the recurve than your stock shield?
Since the tallest shield LRS is telling me is available for my brackets is 3/4 inches shorter than my current shield, I just want to make sure it will work before ordering one.
Just checked and the lrs is ~3/4" shorter than stock (maybe a 32nd more) measured both just now.
I know I receive a lot less insect strikes now, I can hear the radio burblng on any bike in front of me. I do not notice buffeting from below the fairing, but I can't get up above 60 where I've ridden since putting on the shield earlier this year.
Another advice may be to stick to a 20" windscreen but add wind deflectors to your front forks. In my case (I am 6'5'') all my noise was disappeared, my windshield worked better as it have ever done before. Because most of the wind you feel doesnot come from OVER the windscreen but underneath the windscreen, passing the headlight and turbulent along our upper body and your head. Just an experience from Holland, where 'wind' was invented..
That might be something worth looking into.

Ok, thanks for checking on that.
Thats good to know, those insects can hurt some times. Would you say the recurve is a big improvement over the stock shield as far as wind/buffeting goes?
My 20" recurve (clear) shield came in today. I installed it and took the bike out for a trip up and down the highway.
70-75mph for 8 miles each way for a total of 16 miles.
Honestly, I can't tell much of a difference between the LRS and the stock shield. Maybe I need to give it a little more time and ride it for a few weeks. The fork wind deflectors made the most difference with buffeting from what I've observed.
Well, I couldn't stand looking through the bugs, so I chopped mine off with a bandsaw and got the wind out of my chest but I can still see over it easily. I have a stock windshield sitting in storage .....the tall one but can't make myself go back. Rather have a little wind buffet than not be able to see. So, I wear goggles and am happy as a lark. But that's just my dumb ***.
Good luck, I had a lot of fun figuring out what size to cut it to, and none of it made that much difference after it dropped below lip level..... and I cut it off an inch at a time....LOL.

Hmmm, thats not good. Maybe I will check into lower wind deflectors instead.

I've tried three things now - the fork baffle, the fork wind deflectors, and now the new LRS shield. Hands down, the fork wind deflectors made the most difference with buffeting.
In fairness to the LRS shield, most of the buffeting I was experiencing was coming up from the tank area, so logically the wind deflectors would be the most effective.
All in all, I've made an improvement in the ride so it's a good thing.
Hello all. I just wanted to jump in here and clear up the measurement thing. One of you I told our tallest is a 17 1/4" and another I told you our tallest is 19 1/2". These are both true statements. They are two different shields. It's all about the headlight cutout. The Road King or Heritage shields (and others) have roughly a 6 inch height. So, you would start your shield height measurement from this point. With OP's shield, it has a 9" height headlight cutout. And, you start the shield height measurement from this point. Both shields are the same height overall. Meaning from the very bottom to the very top, but when measuring from the headlight cutouts, they are different heights.
I hope this makes sense. Thanks.

I installed fork wind deflectors on my deluxe and didn't really much of a difference. What are you using?

This is the tallest LRS made for the RK. I initially bought the clear one which was a bit shorter, and liked it, but the tallest one was the best for me. (6'1")
I also like the tinted version, but it shows dust & bugs much more than the clear.
Re: improvement over stock - My feeling is based on riding since I installed it earlier this year. Insect strikes down, I see them shoot up and over my head. At the speeds I've been riding I notice less bobbling around of my mushroom head (xl helmet). As far as wind from around the tank I tend to keep my legs parallel with bike (not splayed out) and do not notice a lot of wind disturbance from down low. at 6'2" and about 190# ,not a huge silhouette cutting through the wind. Worth mentioning I have a corbin dual tour that sets me down and back just a little.
