I think that so much has been going wrong with the bikes the last few years that they have to raise the price to keep the profits up. Way to many moving parts and too much electronics nowadays. The old stuff may have been more maintenance intensive but it didn't crap out like this new **** does..
The dealer I purchased from said they stopped offering the ESP.. cost them too much $$$.. And it was a big dealer, Orlando FL.. they claimed they lost money on it although I doubt that's true.

Doesn't cost them a dime. The ESP is actually a third party insurance company. The dealers act as agents for the insurance company in selling you the ESP. For them it's pure profit and if any thing comes up for repair covered under the ESP the Third party insurance comapny reimburses the dealership for parts and labor

"For them it's pure profit and if any thing comes up for repair covered under the ESP the Third party insurance company reimburses the dealership for parts and labor" .. Correct, but at a "negotiated price reduction" ... so, up goes the cost to cover the expected loss of income due to more frequent repairs.
Not really on the '14's, but it applies to any previous model year as well.
Yup, good point....remember costs of labor and parts keep going up, too. So they calculate that in when they decide what they want to charge for the ESP. The same thing is happening with car ESP's.
