think we have all reached speeds in the triple digits before in our life, but danm, when you get busted, stop for the police and take your lick. now a guy is dead, another is sitting in the hospital, insurance rates get affected nationwide and another black eye for bike riders.
I'm in Afghan at the moment but in the rear i'm stationed at Ft Hood Tx. Some of the reg's are over redundant there. I used to live on post and what a pain in the a$$ when i just wanted to go down the street to the shoppette, gloves, longsleeve, reflective vest, helmet, shoes over the ankles, etc.... Now its kinda funny since in the Army Reg's, it states, A brightly colored top, longsleeve, must be worn. It does not say reflective vest but Ft Hood requires it. They are trying to enforce it outside the gates of post. I get that they are trying to control what you do on post, but technically, if you get into an accident off post, during the day, wearing a brightly colored longsleeve shirt and not your reflective vest, you should not be punished, like what happened to one of my soldiers. Just my opinion!
I know what you mean, I'm also stationed at ft hood and my jacket is the 3m luminescent type but it's not good enough so I had to buy a 60 dollar harley vest and I hate riding with gloves, feel better controlled without them. Come home safe!
With sequestration, the military is cutting funding for motorcycle classes here in San Diego, recently changed the reflective vest policy (i.e. you don't need one anymore) and got rid of DoD decals so any Tom, Dick or Larry can go buy a bike and drive it on base without ever having taken a motorcycle safety class. Eventually they will get busted during random inspections but for some novice riders it may be too late should they buy a bike and wreck it before they get trained.
Listen, everyone does stupid **** on their bike, it's not specific to the military or any one group. It is however tragic that a life was lost which should drive every Enlisted and Officer on this forum to go back to your personnel and show them the web link listed and have a talk with them afterwards.
