Oldtimers know about giving the thumbs up or putting the helmet out. I gave one of these guys the thumbs up and he just stared at me as if I were the bozo--which, in this case, maybe I was.
"Putting your helmet behind the rear tire would be good, but what about the riders who don't wear a helmet?

All of these reasons to stop could/should have waited for the next small town or exit ramp, sometimes it is indeed hard to tell if the person does need help..I have stopped for almost everybodyI see, will not cross 4 lanes of fast interstate, but will stop if I can safely do so..last year one out of gas, one broken motor, in both cases it was a matter of letting them use My cell and then waiting for help to come..once I stopped for a lady in a van, she was scared to death she cracked her window and I asked if she needed help, when she said yes, and I found out her cell phone was dead I slid mine through a cracked window for her to use and call her husband, when done I sat on my bike until he showed up, she was scared to death, but her husband thanked me for waiting for him, he knew, but I guess she read to many books or stories or movies about all bikers being bad guys.

if you need my help flag me down, be glad to do what I can.
Only ever had one person give me a thumbs up in return to let me know they were ok. Everyone else just looked at me like I was a slap-tard.
I often wonder if they think I'm riding by mocking them by giving their broken-down selves a big thumbs up.
This last Saturday, finally got a chance to ride the bike, to bad it was for going into work, but 10 miles into 15 mile one way at 7 am in northern mo. a little cold, even tho wearing gloves my paws got numb to the point where I had to stop and warm them up on aside road, little old farm lady pulled up to the stop rolled the window down to seeif I needed some help, that alone was pretty cool, afterI explained that all was well, just warming up my hands, she rolled up her window pulled ahead 10 ft or so, rolled her window back down and asked if I wanted to borrow some gloves. Faith in people restored, I'm rarely in that much of a hurry, I'll stop for ya if I can.
A few minutes after she left someone else stopped.
