I can get a thread to come up ok, the problem is going to the next page or going back. Then it's a crap shoot whether or not it will do it. It's almost easier to close the browser and restart IE and go to the page and start again.

Did that, thanks.....funny thing is my ping times were great.

I'm selling my computer and gonna log on with a typewriter.......maybe that'll be faster.

I read a threadafter finally getting into it,go to post an answer and by the time I get it to post, theoriginator of the thread has sold his harley and bought something else.....or dies of old age.

This site is as slow as a herd of turtles.

I think BountyHunter/Baggerchic/BaggerBabe is Pinging the crap out of this place for revenge!!![sm=icon_rofl.gif] [sm=joke.gif]

Gentlemen, You are all correct. When I took internet developement in programming school, the big thing was "too many graphics slow down the loading of your web pages" this includes all of the ads (especially the ones that feature action), avatars, sig pics, pics that are within the body of a posting, as well as all of the behind the scenes stuff that the forums use to keep track of who is here and what they are doing. It is probably not one specific thing but the collective lot of them. Now here is the catch. when I went to programming school dial up was all there was. Consequently we were taught to be very judicious with our use of anything that causes excessive data transfers. These days with many people now on "Broadband" programmers are not as concerned about that as they used to be. This Hogging up of websites is even causing broadband users to experience problems. That leaves us cheapskates that still use dialup frustrated and waiting. On the up side, users of dial up have a much less greater chance of having their computershacked into by malicious software because our computers are not just sitting online all of the time providing a target for such attacks.

This statement is not entirely mathmatically correct.
I counted 37 individual graphics on this page this does not include anything but the pictures and ads, no graphics related to the actual workings of the page. they have a size ranging from 15000 bytes of data to 57000 bytes of data. If you usean approximatemean size of 30000 bytes of data, that would mean that every time a page (even as small as this one) loads we are transferring 1.1 million bytes of data (all general and approximate) in graphics alone. At a dialup rate of 52 kbps it will take at least 20 seconds just to download the pictures in these short posts. that is assuming you are getting that actual speed from your connection and that is not considering everything else that is bing transferred to make up the rest of the page.
you will notice that it is the really long multiple page threads with multiple postings by members with a graphic sig pic that really take forever to load.

I just got off line and returened and clicked the link to this page and it took exactly 43 seconds for this page to load. So with what I said in the previous post and adding the additional time for everything else to load that is about right. if you had none of the graphics it would have loaded twice as fast, but it not be as much fun without the graphics.

I know I posted this in another thread but it's worth posting again as the response times on this site are getting ridiculously slow.. (i know i know, don't let the door hit me in the ars on the way out)

My connection seems to get slower the longer I'm on. I'll admit, this site has never been real quick for me, but lately it's almost unusable.
I've replied to posts lately and have them fail to go through. It's a real PITA.

Well it is slower than walking through peanut butter and I for one spend much more time on other sites although I do like this one but hate the slow time it takes to open a thread....you may have a huge following but anger enough folks with the way the site is setup and you'll lose your following....of course I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. I've tried all fixes and none seem to help. Let's face it the site is extremely slow. The administrators should provide a way to shut off the ads and the site would fly in comparison. This is meant in a constructive way but the resultis the same....we are all customers in one way shape or form and should be able to access the site without feeling frustrated by the extremely slow pace here.
