If you want something that is tempermental and needs dicked with ALL the time do everything you said you wanted to do. If you want to ride and enjoy your motorcycle leave it alone, replace your cam chain followers and maybe put in some cams and ride.
I have had both, hot rods and stockers/mild mods. The stockers were always more dependable.

I have to agree with the others, bring these issues up to your builder or service rep at your HD dealership. Both should know the effects.

How much better performance are you getting for the $5,000? That would be around 1/6th of the price of a new CVO roadking. Will the build be comparable to the 110?

If you are going this route go a bit more and get the 120R.

If it is a need for speed you want buy a used sport bike for $3000 and pocket the rest. Heck there was a 2007 Triumph Rocket III for sale here for $7,000 that stock has more HP and Torque than even the 120r would give you in Rk.

Ur not the only one that thinks as U are.
Our 07 with 46k on her, I though by now I'd already had the 103 done, Thought about it many, many times.

I was raised if it aint broke, dont fix it applies to most things. And truthfully our 07 just keeps running better and better every YR.

I did the Cams at 16k and I am glad I did, almost 20% more TQ across the sheet. and U can feel it every time I/we ride. IMO it was the best $$$ spent on her. Now I am still happy with power she has with just the cams, no longer feel the need to do the 103 unless/till she needs a new top end. Thinking now she may out last what ridding Yrs I have left.

Also thinking $5k for a BB kit, cams and porting seems pretty high.. Haven't priced a BB job for several yrs, used to be about $1800 with cams, installed during winter special days. Heads (street port) probably around $700.??. new clutch, ????, still I'd think all that for under $3K

Yours at 43k, If You've taken good care of her should have a lot of good miles left in her.
Have U though of getting a 07 up set of heads, they should be fairly cheap VS posting, not to hard to find and flow better than the 04s.

With a 95 kit, cams and beehive heads U should be in the around 95 #'s TQ and that would make most people happy while having a very good street mannered, roadworthy and dependable motor. clutch if needed.

Call around to see if any dealer near U is having any winter specials on BB kits.
That is when U can save a pretty good chunk of coin.
Had my cams job done during the winter 08. Special included - Cams, new lifters, bearing, all gaskets, reinstalled new pipes for free and oil change with Free Dyno when done. All for $895. plus tax.. I jumped on that one. Of course I know that was 5yrs ago.

it has 43000 miles on it and runs fantastic

It is because of that sentence that I wouldn't do anything. And in my opinion 5k$ is the wrong amount.
Either you spend less and just do stage1 (if you don't have it already) and cams with a dyno tune or , in order to remain trouble free like you did so far, spend more and upgrade top end , bottom end and transmission too. If you increase displacemnt and hp significatly the whole bike has to be able to handle it.

I think 43,000 miles is the PERFECT time to do the mods you want. By that mileage your heads are ready to be refreshed anyway, new pistons and rings would be nice and you will co-ordinate everything nicely with the perfect matched cams. So, EVERYTHING in your top end would be FRESH.

Just don't go for anything too hot and as others have said a nice torque band and perhaps 95-100 hp would be really really nice. The twin cam is an extremely STOUT Harley design and that bottom end should still be nice. At 100hp you won't be stressing out much at all or wearing out much at all. A beefier clutch will be in order but that's about all.

GO FOR IT. Don't listen to the nay sayers. What you are looking for makes a LOT of sense at 43,000 miles as you need to freshen the motor ANYWAY... If you wear the whole darn thing out by 100,000 miles at least they will not have been BORING miles!

Just my opinion of course.

Don't forget to improve the brakes and suspension now that you have a higher performance machine. Just as the top end should benefit from freshening---your shocks, brakes and tires will transform the bike also. You will have more fun than a new bike from the factory---guaranteed!
