I had a similar shield in the 70's but it was flat and snapped to the sides also, I've looked for one like and can only find the bubble shields now. It was great in the winter and in the rain.
I'm using the Arai Signet Q FF about 25 percent of the time, Chickin. I still dig my Bell Custom 500 and bought this second one because the price was right. I'm just having fun with the shields as an accessory since I already had one laying around unused.
Dake, I think you might be right about the flip up one being a little better. Seems like it may produce less drag and wind noise (when flipped down) than the bubble too. But I still need to take it on the freeway to be sure.
Here it is flipped up:
Here's my 500 and how I wear it. I like the flip up. Where did you get it?
I wear a yellow one with my 3/4 lid. I like em down to about 40*. Then goggles. Had my clear fly off when one of my helmet snaps broke. That was fun. Biltwell sent me a new helmet no questions asked and a new bubble shield as well. Going to get a flip up cause of it fogging up in town.
I just got matte black version in the mail yesterday and didn't even think to get the shield, it can wait until spring. I got a large for my 23inch melon and it feels like its crushing my forehead....
Funny you say that as I also have a 23 inch head and ordered a size large. I just received mine and it's to cold to ride but it definately doesn't feel to tight. At 23 inches the sizing chart shows we are on the low end for a large. I'm going to test mine out the soon as the temperature gets close to 40.

Our size is right, it is just round where our melons are more oval. I am contemplating shaving some styrofoam from the front.
Rode with the flip up home. Got off early from work so decided not to take the still-crowded freeway. But did get up to 50 on a backroad. Not bad. The flip up does let in more air (with the visor down) than the bubble and is probably about the same in terms of loudness and air drag.
It don't fog up though.
Here's all the snap options from the Bell store. Some of them look pretty useful. Some not.
