For 26,5 That bike is a bit over priced. But it is CL after all.

Depending on what is original vs what is re-pop it could be very well worth the money he is asking. Tank badges and speedo are definitely re-pop. OEM speedo can easily run you 5-7 large and tank badges another 2-3 large, so that is almost a grand there.

What you have to look at...

sheetmetal and things like fender rivets and braces (you can measure them to determine if original part...or not), gas tanks are pretty easy because Tedds stuff is real $hitty versus the originals

matching bore line numbers (vin looks good),

correct date-coded heads (48 did not have re-enforcing rings on valve covers) and cylinders, Linkert carb (looks like the bird cover is re-pop),

then move on to tranny (case and starter crank cover will also have date codes on them (looks like starter crank might be 2-piece; should be 1-piece assembly),

the frame has casting numbers that one can use to determine originality (if the frame is powder coated and not painted they will be harder to make out), same applies to the springer front end.

Obviously there is more to look for, but the above is most of the major stuff...

If this is made up of Tedds parts it is only worth what someone wants to shell out for a bitsa bike; if it is the real deal, the guy could get close to his asking price. This is one of those that you take your copy of Palmers with you (or a friend who has a good idea of old iron) and you do a full on inspection. Then you ask for receipts for the work done as well as ask for the history (ownership) on the bike. If he did the majority of the work and was serious he should have some more pics. Most I know that have these old bikes and take them back to anything close to stock have pics of the work along the way. It provides a future owner, at some point, with a documentaion to show it is the real deal.

Man, that's a beaut...but, for THAT Kinda kapusta, I'd rather buy a new TwinCam & have something I can ride everyday & money left over for mods. Problem with the old bikes...everytime you turn the key, something breaks, leaks, or falls off.

Pllus this is the land of 10,000 frozen lakes and $5000 solid mount engine 883 sportsters. One of the reasons I got my 1200 from another state...

You know way more about pans than I do, just another reason I'd better stay away from something like this. My "restorations" have been for riding, not original; my Tour Glide will never be close to original again (whenever I finish it and get it out of the living room). But something like this pan, if it's something you'd want to keep in the family for future investment, would best be as original as possible I'm sure.

Or get a nice cherry late model FXRT and drop a big S&S and Baker trans in it along with the latest and greatest suspension parts... that's one of my dream bikes.

I never have been that big on old things, so I'll confess that
I wouldn't trade my 07 RKC for it
