It was dark and I was coming off of a curvy two lane road onto a two lane state highway. I came to a stop at the stop sign waiting on a car to pass heading east. I was heading the same direction as the car. I looked both ways after the car passed and as soon as I started into the highway I heard loud motors and locked my brakes up. Then two racing 4-wheelers passed right in front of me heading east. No head lights, both had girls riding with them. They had to be running at least 70 mph. I was in southern Ohio and 4 wheelers on the road isn't a huge surprise, but on the highway at night is. If I didn't hear their motors I would undoubtably have died that night. So loud pipes does saves lives.
I wanted to start this thread to share the close call and for others to share their close call. Maybe it will help us be aware of the possibilities that can kill us while we enjoy our favorite past time.
Glad you're okay. But it is always a good idea to expect the unexpected, and realize that every thing out there can and will kill you if given the opportunity.
The OP`s experience was certainly out of the ordinary. Those are the unexpected things which are really difficult to prepare for, even if you are "expecting the unexpected". If it`s your time it will happen, regardless.
Situational awareness is very important. Seen a few black out vehicles at speed a few times in my life so far. Always leaves me thinking about how seriously stupid some people are.

Close calls will always "wake me up" and remind me of all the goofballs out there. But riding at night with no headlights...I wouldn't feel bad for whatever happens to them...just like texters.
