I have used a Voss non dot beanie helmet, for about 7yrs. Fits and secures well at speed. Thinking of getting an AK88, just for DOT label, in case pulled over, never has happened yet though. If I really wanted to be safe, a full face is best way to go. IMO.
I know you already said no to a ff helmet, but it really is the only way to avoid the ***** head look AND have a real helmet. Solid black plain ff w/ a smoked shield looks pretty sinister, imo. I ride sans helmet, but am thinking about going this route.
I agree with the others about nov helmets, why bother?
That is my issue with those half helmets. I think that they make you look like a ***** head. Whenever I see my shadow with one on, thats what it looks like.
I have been called a ******** a few times,,,but I don't think t has anything to do with the helmet
How are you going to feel if she gets injured wearing a helmet that keeps her happy and 'feeling Safe" instead of a helmet that will actually keep her safe? Just asking.

Im only asking for these helmet suggestions for me. She can pick whatever type she wants, which Im sure will be a larger more padded DOT half or 3/4. I have a ff helmet but that just gets to hot to wear in 100+ degree weather here.
I like that AK88. It looks like a nice fit and its not real big. I think thats the route im going to take...for me!
From: a little place called 'insanity'... a great place to be!
Quite a few years ago I ordered a low profile half helmet that supposedly was DOT approved. I think the company name was Carbon Fiber Helmets and they were located in FL. A quick google search didn't bring anything up for me. But I came across this site. Might be just what any anti-mushroom head is looking for.
I'm a victim of Mushroom Head. Today, I went to the HD dealership and bought a half helmet with wide padded straps. I tried it on, but didn't check it out in the mirror.
Later on, I pulled up next to some bagger with his skinny little skull cap...he pointed and laughed his tats off at me Mushroom Head.
I called the dealer and no return policy on helmets.
