Oh man......i remember standing someplace when i was about 6-7 years old and seen a guy ride by on his BMW motorcycle. I even remember that He had black pants, a white shirt and black shoes on. The sound and looks of both the bike and rider was the start of a lifelong love for bikes. I think i heard the switch being flipped on in my head......
Always cracks me up when ya get stuck behind a school bus....One of the boys will turn and look. Wave at him, or nod your head, and next thing ya know....all the back seats are full...they're waving and pointing...smiling and laffing......Never ceases to bring a smile to my face.
If I'm in a car, they'll be sticking out their tongues and giving me the finger; never had that happen on a bike, seems like all the kids love motorcycles.

No doubt, we were all rebels at one time or another!
I remember cruising down the freeway in the back my dads Chevelle and rubber necking at all the bike groups. I new then someday I would be riding!
I was about 11 when I first saw the bottom pic. It's my grand mother on her brothers 1928 HD. The pic was taken about 1932 near Fowlerville Mi. The pic on top is my mom and I taken in 2001 at her home in Norwood NC. I have the same smile on my face riding my Harley as I did when i first saw my grandma on her brothers Harley...

I don't remember when it first hit me, but every now and then I come across a picture of myself as a kid in my teaball uniform. I was wearing a Seattle Mariners hat that was just COVERED with Harley stickers. My first ride was on the back of a Sportster my dad's friend had. We were over there and he borrowed it long enough to take my brother and I around the block. First person I ever rode with.

My older brother rode motorcycles. I got the bug when out of the blue he took me for a ride (this was on a 500cc Honda of some sort). My actual memory of that ride is now not much more than a sensation of speed and noise, but that's where it started for me.
I often wonder, as I watch kids crossing the street in front of me at the lights, or in the backs of cars on the road, whether 30 years from now they'll be having a conversation that goes, "yeah, I remember seeing this beautiful blue-and-chrome Harley when I was a kid..."
my father rebuilt a sportster back in the early 80's. i remember him riding it up and down the street swearing profusely at it cause he was having issues with the carb. in 84 mom bought him a brand new fxrs. he use to take me to school on it. man did i feel cool then...
When I'm back in Texas, all my nieces and nephews calmer about getting a ride. I alternate taking them to school, and picking them up after. Kids are a lot of fun when their not yours
I hope to retire and move back in time to teach the oldest to turn a wrench on a bike before he's too busy to hang out with, but he'll be 18 when I retire. We'll see if he has the bug then.
