Remember how many times someone has been told to get a smaller bike to learn how to ride before they bought the Big Twin they always wanted ? And they had to buy a Japanese motorcycle first ? Now they don't have to buy something other than an HD.
I also remember when you learned to ride on a smaller bike like this Harley Davidson.
Back then, a 450 was a big bike and a 750 was the ultimate road burner.
I also suspect the 883 (possibly the entire Sportster line) is running out of time...
I suspect if they are going to down size their girls bike line then they will shave models fom the top instead of leaving a huge gaping hole in their line of bikes. They will just make the new Dyna on the "old" sportster platform. And just go up the chain and cut it off at the biggest bike you can get. Makes more sense.
Sunny and high 20s today. I seen the first bike out today in MI, while riding mine, every single day this year the roads were clear no matter the temp I have been on the road doing what I gotta do or just having fun. Was kinda neat to see another sportster on the road.
If you pay attention and you see a harley out under 50F or over 100F it will be a sporty rider, if you hear or see one in the rain, best bet is it will be a sportster. And if you hear a bike on the street at sunny and 72F, its most likely a sportster, thats when the barges are pulled out of the garage to get washed.
Its called a girls bike because thats how single guys get girls. Girls aint impressed by sweaty wet old men bent over scrubbing chrome.
look at all the people buzzing around on scooters...they are the perfect candidate for the street models by harley. hope the moco sells a ton of them.
now, if they can just build a bike to compete with the bmw gs 1200. light, lots of power, and you can ride it damn near anywhere. a dual purpose adventure bike.
As usual 95% of the forum members here don't understand the idea behind these bikes.
Do tell.
Is the idea to look like a Japanese sport bike from 1982?
Radiators are ugly. Period. But I get that there's no way around that. That aside, not sure what the designers were thinking aesthetically. I like the concept but these bikes are ugly. Period. The tank, seat and tail section are just terrible.
This thing looks like an attempt to compete with the Yamaha Bolt. My wager is that the younger crowd that already doesn't have H-D brand loyalty (Harley-Davidson has legacy issues) would choose a Bolt over one of these weird looking things. Yamaha understood the idea behind these bikes and executed admirably. H-D failed.

I get the concept of the bike. I don't get why it's heinous. I actually had one reserved, but dropped the reservation upon viewing further pics. Check this out. It even sounds like crap to me...
