MANDATORY Full Face Helmet!!!
Although...one of the MSF instructors here on base is a Lt. and his boss is always getting harassed about his reflective gear and everything else when riding on base, so when the Lt. asked one of the gate guards why they always gave his boss so much grief, the Airman responded with a big smile "Cause he's a Colonel!"
Well, I guess that's a chance i'm willing to take then. I put up with alot of $hit, been to combat twice, have done more than the majority of everybody else in the country to help keep her strong....I've earned the right to ride my damn motorcycle with a half lid. Like it or not, I'm a man, not a child.
I will just ignore the regulation.

Uhh, you might want to refresh your memory on the oath you took when you enlisted or were appointed. And I doubt your commanders care whether you are a combat veteran when it comes to riding. They probably only care you follow the rules and "be safe"...even if they don't understand what that is with motorcycles. "Just saying...
Anyway, assuming you decide not to follow the rules you should know that your "free" health care and other benefits are at risk if you get injured without the gear...even while off duty. I know of at least two "not in the line of duty" determinations where the riderdidn't follow the DoD rules. Costly mistake for the first guy including disciplinary action, had to pay for very expensive hospitilization, etc.Second guy probably didn't care because he was dead. There's a potential significant financial impacteither way.
bradvols gave some pretty good advice you might want to consider...
Another edit:
1. Guys are correct until when/if the rule is changed you are going to have to wear your fullface to ride on post. I had to in KS and since I live on post if they sai I had to wear a pink tutu to ride on post I would have to wear it until I hit the gate. That's where this post is from if you go down off post as long as you are metting the DOD directive you have a leg to stand on. But without proper gear you arent getting past the gate.
2. Sorry but this itches my butt we aren't on anybodies friggin dime we pay our taxes too. Thas as lame as someone giving the Cops the I pay your salary routine.
3. I would guarantee the data used to support this decision is backasswards. I don't know about the AF but the army safety site has data on every class 1 accident (death, injury to a ceratin dollar amount lost time) Would not be hard for me to form a fight that full face helmets aren't goingto help cause the guys getting killed are 19 year old just back from Iraq/Afgan dudes that are buying the fastest thing on the showroom floor and promtly wrapping themselves around the nearest hard, immovable object at high speed. Look into it maybe the AF has the same thing I don't know.
Okay, that was the reg's as I remembered them, at least 7 months ago when I left Minot behind, and came here to Osan....
I guess I'm just not willing to let my entire life be regulated. If that makes me a crappy NCO, then I guess I'll have to learn to live with that label.

Anyway there are a ton of misconceptions in this thread. Suffice to say I hear a ton of 4 and out soldiers talking like...well 4 and out soldiers. There is ALWAYS a choice guys. ALWAYS. Every Choice has a Consequence, some good, some bad.
There is a say that I always got pissed hearing "You defend Freedom, you don't practice it." LAME LAME LAME. That was made up by someone with a small dick and a smaller brain. 100% of the armed forces today is volunteer. We follow orders and make commitments because we WANT to. My Vietnam Era brothers didn't have that choice. The military is different now and some of the regulations are just slow to catch up.
My problem is not with the AR, AFI or whatever it is the Jarheads and Squids call thier rules. It is with the knee jerk safety officer/nco that adds to these rules with no Rhyme or Reason. No harm in voicing our displeasure.
As for the Tax dollar thing...lame. Get off it, I bet your company recieves government money too, so unless they don't recieve ONE DIME, please drop it.
