NJ Rider question...
That was my thought, but technically in NJ it's illegal to pump your own gas except for on military installations (someone explain that one)

Some of the attendants are actually really cool and will shake the nozzle a bit before handing it to you.

And mostly I stay on the bike when fueling, I just lean over a bit and watch after turning the handlebars to the left.

Never set on the bike when fueling up. Too much exposure to bad things happening.
I do it most of the time.. nothing bad has happened yet.... ?
1. take off gloves
2. put gloves in crotch area
3. take off gas cap
4. put gas cap on gloves
5. Attendant hands you gas nozzle (well in Oregon they do) guess that's why I tend to be on the bike.. I don't have to get up off it.
6. point nozzle down at ground for a sec or two ..shaking
7. with paper towel scrub around gas cap... ok I'm kidding here.. hold it on the end of the nozzle till you reach the gas tank fill hole.
8. bend slightly forward and squeeze handle on nozzle.. watch gas flow
9. when gas tank is full, let off handle and slightly pull back on nozzle..let it drip
10. move paper towel to nozzle endas you lift it out of tank fill hole
11. hand the nozzle back to attendant and put gas cap back on bike
12. pay attendant.. put gloves back on.. start bike up and ride off
I guess I'd have to get off bike in any state except NJ and Oregon to get the nozzle in the first place.. so I'd fill while not on the bike.
Not a bad idea to check tires and such while filling up as well.
