That being said, I hate to start in the rain, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Last summer coming back from the beach my wife was pullling our pop up camper and I was riding the bike and when we stopped at the rest area it looked like rain. I told my wife, I wouldn't mind a little rain to cool things off. I was burned up. Well, I got my wish and more. I tailed along behind my wife at about 15 to 20 mph concentrating on her taillights to keep in my lane. I didn't even have goggles, just my sunglasses. Luckily we were about 30 miles from home and the hard rain was over in about 15 minutes.

This is how I see things.
Drizzle: I ride
Light rain: About 50 miles then I'm done.
Medium rain: Short trips less that 10 miles.
Heavy rain: I wait until it stops, then ride.

Living in the north west we get to know rain. Local M.C. safe drivinginstructor suggested:
With good tread on wet roads you actually loosejust over10% of your traction. Sounds ok until you start cornering then this canrepresents 50 to 70% of what your riding on.
