Another thought too... I plan on having my girl on the back as well.. Is there a big difference with that on an 883 vs 1200? Anyone ride with passengers with the 883?
I'm 5'7" and about 185.. Haven't had the chance to ride the 1200 yet.
The 1200 has forward controls. I didn't see the 883 listing, but most 883's have mid controls. At 5'7" you might be more comfortable having your feet under you rather than extended forward.
You can get kits to move the controls back, but it's not cheap--I think $8-900.
I'd go up one more size to a Dyna. I have a 1200 Sportster and while it is a very competent and nimble bike I always felt like I needed a smoother ride on the open road which is exactly what other riders I rode with claimed was there love for the open road with their bigger H-D.
If you are more comfortable with a Sprty tho go with the 1200 or after a month with the 883 you will be wishing you did. The Sporty is a very capable bike, however if you are interested in 2up riding, then get a bike more conducive to a passenger. Dyna Wide Glide is a very good choice, but I personally made the jump to a touring Road King when momma said she would love to travel together. She's never complained which was all she did on the Sporty.
