3/4 with full face mask. Depending upon how low I pull the mask will measure how much wind noise I have. All the way down and there is some noise, but tolerable.

I have used a few different types and so far the foam plugs seem to work best. The plugs I use at concerts stick out of my ear a bit and when I put my full face helmet on they can be pulled out. If the foam plugs dont fit as well I have aslo found that cutting off some of the end (the end that goes in the ear) makes them fit better.

Hearing is far to valuable to lose.

I also use a 3/4 helmet, and in cool weather have a bubble shield on it. If I am on the freeway or going to be riding more than 5 minutes I try to put in some foam ear plugs. The silicone ones are good too, but I loose them too quickly.

Full face modular always.
Ear plugs if I'm going to be on the bike longer than an hour or 2.

I've used the LEIGHT foam ear plugs from Dollar General. They are safety orange color and block out 33db. $2.00 - $2.50 for 5 pr. I use about two packs a riding season. Work great for me.

Next bike show look for fit-ear. They inject the material into your ear canal and make custom ear plugs at a very reasonable price. BTW, even if you ride with a full face or 3/4, if you don't wear plugs eventually you will damage your ears.

For those interested in noise canceling ear buds.....this is a good article. I wear. Half helmet and earbuds with my iPod on medium volume. Also putting on a windshield helps considerably.

+1 on the Surefires. I started wearing them last year and have been extremely satisfied. I can hear the engine, I can hear ambient noise, but the wind noise is gone. And they're quick and easy for me to put in.
