So why do the harley guys prefer black leather over brown leather ?

Why black over brown, just a matter of preference, like the color of the bike. I've got a light jacket I wear and it's a dark brown. I've never paid attention to it not being black. I got it because of the way it felt and looked. But my leather jacket isn't all black. It has a gray stripe down each sleeve.

I'd have a brown jacket if the right deal and situation came about. I have two black leather jackets, a mesh jacket with black and other colors; a textile jacket that is black and grey.

I haven't seen any brown leather jackets for sell in my area .. But I do have a brown leather seat on my SG
