Hopefully this is the right spot. I recently bought my first Harley a 98 electra glide and road across the country to get it home.
I used the boots I snowbike in and they are massive and bulky and not as water proof as I would have liked and take forever to dry out. I also packed shoes around for when its nicer out or when I get to a motel for the night. When I had sport bikes my boots where water proof but alway gave me blisters if I walked any distance.
is it possble to get a boot that is warm and dry and i can walk around in? or a gortex boot? what do you guys use?
You're going to get many different answers covering a large price range. From $70-$500+. Figure out your budget and decide exactly what you want in a boot. Then look at the various options. I'm now wearing the Bates Escalante Motorcycle Boot. I was wearing Timberland hikers. Both were waterproof. The Timberlands were less waterproof but more comfortable to walk in. The Bates are probably more protective.
The list of makers and model are too long to list but use Google to narrow down your choices.
These Alpha Force Side Zip are what I use. They are almost too warm for summer. They are very light though and comfortable for walking a lot. Waterproof with good tread.
I got mine from an indie shop near Waco TX...$80. They're not waterproof but they're comfortable. The thing I wish they were was steel toed. Because they're not, I have a dent in my left toe aka shifter toe.
Regardless of what boot you choose, make sure it has a non-slip, oil-based sole. There's nothing worse than coming to a stop and have your feet slide out from under you and the bike tipping over.
