Default First Ride

Just picked up my 2004 1200 xl custom today. I am very excited but I gotta say, the ride was only about 90 miles, and my butt is sore. So i am jumping on here to see what people have to say. The most common thing I am hearing is to upgrade to a mustang seat? Anyone have any experience with these or something different? Ill be ordering some vnh straightshots soon, but think I will have to do a seat as well. Let me know what you think

thanks

Welcome!
I liked the way the stock seat looked but it was uncomfortable for me after 100 miles so I bought a Mustang vintage 2 piece seat, I only use the solo seat though. Come on over to the Sportster section and look around for lots of info and make sure you post a picture of your bike.

I've been riding with a Mustang Vintage seat also for a little while now and really like it as well. One odd thing with it is that the first few rides I took on the seat it seemed uncomfortable, but after those first few rides it became much better than my stock seat.

I also have the 2 piece seat and usually ride with it as a solo seat.

Congratulations and welcome. There's only a few of us that are lucky enough to get alont fine with the stock seat. When I got my 05 I thought that would probably be the first thing I replaced but I found that it worked great for me.

My daughter's boy friend just bought a 1200 custom, and we just rode one time togather, I think he's too excited to notice the seat. We are all going to Gatlinburg this week, so I'm sure byu the end of the week he will be used to the bike enough to express his opinion. Will let you know how he feels.

thanks the more input the better, I have been batting around the idea of an "airhawk" cushion, it is an air overlay i can't find out to much information on the mustang, and corbin seats, do they use better foam or is it just the style that makes a difference?

I had a Mustang seat on my XL883H, and have a Corbin on my FXDBI. Both companies offer a high quality product, and I don't think you could go wrong with either. If you look at the websites for both companies, they will give you some information about how they make their seats, and why they make them the way they do. As for the difference in comfort, I think its a combination of both better materials and styling. I have not personally seen the MoCo's business model, but I have to assume it runs along the lines of - sell expensive bike with low cost seat - make more profit - increase sales of HD seats as accessories - make more money.

My Sporty has a HD Pillow tandem seat. Just got back from a few hours in the saddle. My passenger and I both gave it a thumbs up.

Ride it a few more times before you jump to another seat.
Depends if you are used to doing lots of riding, or this is more or
less you 1st ride of the season.
Here lots of good things about the Mustang seats though...
