So this is my first Harley and I bought her out-of-the-box.
I've had to replace the tank so far as it was leaking out of the cap because of crappy welding.
I noticed the other day she's going through oil too quickly. I decided to keep an eye on it and wait until my 1st service. Turns out my head gasket has a manufacturing defect and also has to be replaced.
Is anybody else having such problems from a new bike? I'm obviously under warranty so I haven't had to pay a dime but I'm getting a bit concerned that I've done only 1000 on it and this is already happening.
Make no mistake I am very happy with this bike and couldn't see myself on anything but a Harley from now on.
No issues so far on my 2014 48. It does have a little knock when hot that my other sportsters never had (not talking about the tick, tick, tick, sewing machine sound). When it went in for the 1K service, they went through everything and found nothing. The service tech who worked on it
even talked to me about it. He said they had one other 2014 in the shop for the knock, took the heads and cylinders off and looked over everything and could find nothing wrong. Said he thinks some of the 2014s are going to have that knock. That's been the only item to come up on my bike and I have over 2K miles now on it.
I'm sure it's a one off, and if nothing else you're solidifying your relationship with your dealer who are probably a little embarrassed by your problems.
