OP........you may want to invest in a turkey baster as well. In case of an overfill you can always suck some out vs draining out the excess. +1000 on getting a shop manual also.
He's obviously new at wrenching his own, and made a mistake. No big deal. Drain the tranny, and refill everything with the right oil in the right hole...
Ya got your fingers dirty wrenching on your bike, which is more than many on here can say...
There are 3 plugs on the bottom. Engine right, transmission left, both of those towards the right side of bike. The primary plug is below the primary on the left side almost directly below the derby cover. Transmissions on both of my bikes have dip sticks stock.
Your right on a A motor,, but a B motor is Diff.... His Avatar show a Heritage...
engine on the right,, tranny between the shocks and pri on the lower pri cover..
then it is diff depending on the yr...Which the OP didn't mention really what he has..
Things happen. I had a friend fill a new diesel pickup truck with gasoline the first day. Took off and made it about 2 miles before it went south. Man that was a mess to fix.
FYI, the guy at the shop doing oil changes is typically the lowest paid/least experienced.
Yep! Usually the guy that washes the bikes.
That would be why if you don't do your own service, you need to find a small independent that works alone, so the guy with the skill to rebuild your engine also changes your oil and tires.
A friend of mine had his tires changed by one of our biggest metro area independents only to have to go back immediately because the bike didn't feel right because the rear axle wasn't torqued.
He brought it to me to have it double checked and they did torque the rear, but when I put the torque wrench on the front, the weight of the wrench itself moved the nut.
Since I have a rim clamp tire machine, I'll be changing his tires from now on.
You guys that don't have mechanical experience or inclination need to study the manual on every task you attempt.
