Default 20% off MSRP

Because of y’all and this forum I have discovered a few 20% off HD accessories places who do not charge tax for out of town orders. Just shipping. Even with the shipping fee when you factor in 20% off AND no sales tax it’s a pretty good deal.

So I go to my local dealer and show them my list of 20% off places and the sales man, who I like, walks me over to the GM and introduces us and then says Nick would like to know if we’d match these prices. . .

Mind you I JUST bought a 2007 Night Train from this place.

The GM says “****in Internet is ruining it, we will never match Internet prices and that’s a promise.” That the fat azz waddles off.

My sales guy looks at me and says get it from the other guys, I would.

I wuz kind-a surprised at the reaction I got from the GM especially after I just plunked down 20 grand.

So now I'll go to my local dealer. Look around see what I want then go home and order it 20% off online.

Hey you don’t want my money you don’t have to have it. It’s a real bad way of doing business if you ask me.

I agree, especially considering you bought the bike from them. I asked my dealer the same thing but they don't discount at all. They do that friggin riders rewards thing now where you accumulate points.

In this day and age where even granny is surfing the net, Idon'tunderstandwhy dealers insist on pi$$ingaway business and losing customers. Sure, they're not going to make as much per item, but theymightmake it up on the volume of sales. If I had a dealer that would give me the 20%I can get online, I'd gladly give them my business. But since they don't.....off to cyberspace I go.

In this day and age I don't get even bother with the dealer anymore.Seems like every timeI need something they have to order it anyhow.I went in a while back for a headlight bulb and the bezel for my bike and the guy said they had to order the bezel and the cost for the light and the bezel was 168 BUCKS!!!.I came home and ordered it from JP cycles for 48 dollars for both items.I also had the parts at my door the next afternoon! Talk about a rip off .Those dealershipguys are nuts!!

Maybe it's going to take the sales guys, parts guysand others at dealerships to get this message to senior management and ownership. Internet sales are not only not going away, they'll just get more and more popular. Smart businesses change with the time or become obsolete.

Heck, depending upon what I want I might even settle for 10% if I could buy it local. But there's enough uneducated folks who will just walk in and pay full retail that the dealers have no problem not discounting at all. That will change though. It just needs a little more time.

If these dealers would just try to meet you halfway and not try to squeeze every last penny out of you they would do themselves a big service long term. I'm trying to buy a new bike and it is amazing how little they are willing to do to have your business.

I understand why dealers need an extra 20%. They sometime havethe part in inventory, they always have a brick and mortar building so to speak and overhead in salaries and benfits in sales/parts guys to help you. These GM's have quotas to make themselves and may be competing with internet shops whohave nothing more in the business investment than a laptop and tax ID with ordering software. The internet shop maybe making more profit than Mr. Harly dealer himself. What I don't understand is the attitude these guys have. On all Ebay sales the seller ask you to check with your Harley Dealer for proper fitment because all sales are final. Kind of a free service.

However, if Mr. Dealer took a little time and sold you on the importance of having local help etc. you may have said, I see the value in the additional 20%." However some of these GM's cop an attitude simply because they work for Harley and treat us riders/customers like they are doing us a favor even talking to us after the bike sale.
