I wish cars would do #3 more. We have people here that get to a stop sign and I think they're going straight, since they don't have a turn signal on. As I'm pulling forward, they turn on their signal as they're pulling forward and turning. I have to stop of hit them.

Great advice and well worth re-reading a few times to let it soak in. Thanks for posting

Yeah, we all already know this stuff, but it's good to keep it fresh in our minds.

I ride with the thought the cars/trucks don't see me, so I ride/act accordingly.
In South Florida, that's probably true more than I'd like to know.

Keep bike in gear at red lights. You never know when you'll need to exit the area in a hurry even if the light is red.

Watch for oil pools at intersections.

Deer do move in the daytime as well.

A 30% chance of rain means it WILL rain.

HAHA yes, all great advice and responses!

Now, try injecting some of that logic into one of these threads where someone posts about getting hit or going down and NOTHING about it being his fault. They'll call you a know-it-all and rip up one side of you and down the other, followed by whole gaggle of others piling on behind them.

Thanks for posting. Brushing up on these types of things is always beneficial.

Good stuff here, I tend to think of my bubble as my comfort zone, If I feel uncomfortable (spidey-sense from 40+ yrs riding) I get back in the zone asap. I don't like being passed on the right or have some cager hanging in my zone. My OL still doesn't get why I'll speed up or slow down and give em the look. That's MY space stay out! Same on the left pass me, or back off!!
Drives me nuts they'll do it when there's plenty of clear road ahead and behind.
OK I think I may be beginning to rant, Y'all have a safe and happy 4th!

One thing that has saved my bacon on more than one occasion is this. When riding surface streets, always be scanning the side roads for cages coming. 99% of the time around here they never stop and just pull right out. It's even worse when they make left turns. But if you see them coming you can anticipate what they're going to do and take appropriate action to avoid them.

I use store fronts to reflect moving vehicles before I pull out of blind areas.

I will add to this a little. I try to get into traffic at a red light where someone is stopped behind me, I feel like I have a shield between me and some dumb azz who doesn't see everyone stopped at a red light.

Also when the light turns green I look both ways and pause for a second. I can't tell you how many times a log truck or something else ran the red light about the time I would've been in the intersection if I would have pulled out as soon as the light turned green.

I'm not saying my way is the all out correct way, but it works for me and I feel more comfortable this way.

+1 on the oil. Approaching an intersection a couple of weeks ago, I saw what looked like a barrel of oil had spilled from a truck. It left a path about 3 feet wide and maybe 50 feet long, and started about 20 feet before the intersection. I narrowly missed it as I swerved to the right in my lane. An inattentive person would have gone down in that mess.
