Sturgis is a ton of fun and I try to go every year. I'm headed up with 4 friends and will be the tour guide of sorts for this trip. 26 days and counting.
I hear ya OP. Having a kid at home puts a end to long rides in most cases. Especially for me. First and last long trip was from Kentucky to missouri Ozarks country. Great riding twisty road up thru the Ozarks. When I got to the end I get to visit with family members I haven t seen in a few years. . Was a good time
I've always dreamed of a longer one. Camping out along the way like a bunch of cowboys. I don't do rallies, too wild and against my morals with some things that incur there. But a big ride into montana and a few nights camped in the wilderness ohh yeaaaaa

I'm a full days ride from Laconia and done that plenty of times. Same old thing every year, but a good time for the most part.
Sturgis is a 5000 mile round trip for me, but I'm giving it serious consideration for next year. I normally hit up rallies with a small group of guys, but am really thinking about doing this one either solo or with one good bud. Just the thought of it is awesome. I wouldn't want to do long hard days on the road.....maybe taking six days or so to get there, 400 miles or so a day. Taking my time, taking in the sights, chatting with strangers.....then hitting the rally. Yeah......that's the ticket.
