Default Chrome Resurface Question

Hello all, longtime member of soaking up info but this is my first post. Bare with me if there is a better forum for this but my question is on chrome resurface. On my handlebars, I have a set of pullbacks that plug right into the tree, right at the weld where the rise meets the actual bars, I have noticed over time the chrome has begun to chip away. No big deal, and most wouldn't notice it. Hell, I don't even know when it started. But nonetheless, I would like to nip it in the butt now rather than wait til it really looks like ****. Anybody know if you can just re-chrome spots? Or do the entire bars have to be resurfaced? What is the process? I really don't want to just buy new bars when it becomes to noticeable, and it is such a small spot now. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks

The whole bar has to be chromed. They just don't re chrome one spot they dip the whole bar! I had some parts re chromed. Look around lots of good places. swifty

I don't know if there are any modern short cuts, but historically the chrome had to be removed electrolytically, in other words reverse-plated to get it all off, then as swifty says, the whole item replated.

Yep, chrome is another "plate" or "shell" over existing metal surface and must be done as a unit. If the chipping isn't bad...wait.

I kinda figured it was as a unit, but I figured I would ask in the event somebody knew of any shortcuts in spot chroming. But thank you to you all for the info. Much appreciated.
