Regular oil changing is the key.
Many thoughts regarding brands, just like the different tires.
20W50 motorcycle oil (your choice of brand.)
I use Spectro 20W50 semi-synthetic.
I have a stash of H-D Sport-Trans oil for the primary/tranny. They share. One oil for the p/t.
I prefer to use oil that is made for the tranny and primary.
Sometime cheaper than engine oil.
Touchy topic and be prepared for the dreaded "use the search feature" response.
For me, I like going to local auto parts stores (e.g. Auto Zone, O'Reilly, Advance Auto, etc.) when oil's on sale. Right not my preferred selection is M1 20/W50 V-twin which is full synth. Noticed the other day they also carry Castrol 20W/50 V-twin so might give that a try this time. Good luck w/your oil dilemma.
When or if you search the forums on oil preference it can be confusing at times. I would use the recommended viscosities in the owners manual, just choose your brand. Synthetic vs. Conventional is a debate also, I personally use Valvoline 20/50 4 stroke, my old Evo runs quiet on it. My local Indy uses Castrol 20/50 semi synthetic, so pick your poison and change it when the book tells you to. Good Luck.
