Default Speedometer Toughness

I got an old Ironhead chopper. I even have the 1946 springer forks off one of those old forty fives. I got those short forks to run a 21 inch front wheel without having to do some thing like rake the frame.
Now I'm going to set up a speedometer. One run by a speedometer drive gear on the front wheel like it had while stock. I've even found a gear for a 21 inch wheel.
Finally I have to figure out where to put the speedometer.
I got drag bars and a set of lifters holding them up. I even got a clamp that will hold the speedometer on the handlebars in between the lifters.
That makes me wonder if the speedometer will be tough enough to take it there. That is because I had an electronic tachometer from Drag Specialties there and it didn't hold up. The finger broke, the plate got loose and the light stopped working.
Will the speedometr be tough enough using the clamp that has rubber in it?
