Question: engine , trans components .

Default Question: engine , trans components .
Hello Riders:

My new to me bike: 2010 FLHT , 103 engine, 6 gears.

Behind the rear cyclinder, In the area near the starter motor,
There is a chrome rectangular box top (about 3inch by 5inch) bolted down
on top of the transmission.

Coming out the this box top is a short (1.5inch long ) rubber tube.
There is nothing in the tube.

Is this a vent ? ,
I can not see anything to connect the other end of the tube to.
so I assume it is some kind of vent tube.

Am I correct .??

Also , if it is just a vent , , wouldnt rain water enter into vent , while
riding at speed ... ??

Perhaps something is missing from my bike .?
