2007 fxstb stuck valve?

Default 2007 fxstb stuck valve?

Okay so let me start first by saying that I am not a knowledgeable bike mechanic. I am a sheet metal worker on aircraft, I am capable of doing the work I just don't know anything. Okay so my problem is this, my 2007 night train is mostly stock as far as the drive train is concerned. I have sort pipes and the mapping has been changed to suit but that is it. now the other day it started running like it was starving. I noticed on my way home from work that it was having trouble staying running at idle and seemed to be skipping even when under power. It runs better when you have the throttle opened up more, I am throwing flames out of the pipes which makes me think of a stuck valve. I have run some seafoam in it to hopefully help unseat any crud but so far no love. When I fire it up it runs and then will spit a little and eventually stall if not reved. It is my primary means of transport and I don't have enough money to take it in and get any major work done. Just looking for some help if anyone can hook a brother up.

Sounds like a fuel pressure problem. I assume its efi. Fuel filter, pinhole in lines in the tank etc. I don't think its a sticking intake or exhaust valve. You can check for codes using the odometer to put it into diagnostic mode. Video on YouTube. Easy way to see if it's fuel is to try WOT. If it pulls hard and has plenty of power, then the fuel supply is probably good. If it's OK WOT, maybe a vacuum leak. There is no vacuum at WOT. Vacuum leaks don't affect WOT,especially on an injected motor. Check the intake manifold seals and the map sensor if vacuum leak is suspected. You could do a compression test if you still think its valve related. Hope this helps narrow it down.

A lean mixture burns slower ie: flames out pipes? Check compression. Use your thumb over spark plug hole and, with both plugs out, roll bike in high gear to feel for compression and leak down. If that`s good try running a potent mixture of injector cleaner through it. You have tried new plugs?

Generally if you've got a stuck valve you have lots of mechanical noise from the top end and no fire in that cylinder. It sounds like the fuel is passing into the hot exhaust so the first thing I'd do is install a fresh set of spark plugs.
