Default "Rebuilding" a windshield

Picked up a used QR windshield for my Dyna for cheap. Knew the plastic was shot, so I ordered a Memphis shades replacement shield. One thing I need is the tape that holds the metal strapping on the plastic screen. HD sells it, but I don't want to wait the week+ my dealer says it'll take to order them. There's got to be an alternative. I have some 3m double sided tape (clear!) that would probably work, but its way thicker then the original stuff and two layers on the main cross brace will probably be too thick...

Any suggestions on what to use? Tx

I picked up some double-sided tape from a hobby store (used for holding servos in an R/C airplane) and it looks to be the same thickness as the tape on my Memphis Shades windshield. You might try a hobby shop and have a look.

According to Long Ride Shields, you don't actually need the DS tape. It jumps makes assembly easier when they make the stock ones.

Cool

By the time we have come to a decision you could have got the correct tape from your dealer! In the meantime it is certainly worth assembling without tape, to see if there is any disadvantage - I can't think of one myself.

No tape needed, but if you want it, the 3M double sided tape at Napa or wherever used for car trim and moldings works great...

Yeah, that's what I have a couple of rolls of. Maybe I'll give it a try.
