Default fxdx brake questions

Pulled both front end calipers off my fxdx and gave everything a clean. Pistons etc. Now, i pushed the pistons back in, but only so much that the pads would fit on the rotor. Before i had a very soft/mushy front brake lever. now it is very firm and i barely have to squeeze it to engage the brakes. before there was a very visible gap between the pads and the rotors, now there is no gap. as if the pads are kind of resting on the rotors. is this ok? or should i have had pushed the pistons back in a lot more? i hear no dragging sounds when rocking the bike

What you had before was not right - what you have now sounds fine! As a final check lift the front wheel off the ground and spin it by hand, you may feel a little dragging, but nothing much. You may also find after a decent ride that everything settles in and there is no drag.

You don't mention bleeding the brakes! If you pushed the pistons back, with the reservoir cap still on, there may be a little back pressure in the system. I recommend you remove the cap with care, just in case fluid leaks out. If you haven't changed the fluid in a while then I suggest you do so, which will complete your brake overhaul. Read the words on the reservoir cap to confirm the correct fluid to use, which will be either DOT5 or DOT4.
