Chromed 10-24 Thread Fix?
I sent out a pair of saddlebag lid rails for chroming. One of the mounting bosses came back with chrome in the threads. It is a boss tapped for 10-24 screws.
I have been looking for a "thread-cleaning chaser" tool, but haven't seen any for a 10-24 internal thread.
Does anyone know of any tool that will clean or re-thread a 10-24 internal thread?
Thanks,
HDJeff

It is an internal thread and someone should have been slapped silly for not plugging the hole before chroming. If you are lucky and the chrome didn't bond, you may be able to very carefully run a quality 10-24 bottom tap in there. I would be afraid of a plug tap, chrome is super hard and the tap is most likely gonna get dull and stick in the hole before it starts actually chipping the chrome. You may be better off taking it back to the chrome shop, they may have chemicals that would remove or at least soften the chrome in the hole.
