Default 14 street glide special Help !

Hello all!

I'm so happy to be apart of HD forums, previously I use to look for answers at my local harley dealer but I often felt like they cared more about making a sale.

I have a few questions for you guys,

What is the width of a rear fender for a 14 street glide special? Also, how thick should a sturdy sissy bar be? I am trying to provide a welder with the width so he can make me a custom sissy bar and I don't know what to tell him?

Also, I am 5'11 and I do a lot of riding, how high can I go with ape hangers and still be comfortable, I want them at or slightly above shoulder length? What the thickness on my handle bars? What a good brand for apes?

And finally, I am constantly getting an error message on my street glides Bluetooth. It will say "PLAYBACK STOPPED" and I will lose Bluetooth connection but radio will work just fine, anyone know what is causing this?

Thanks for your help guys

I've got a 15 SGS, can't comment on fender width, but I wouldn't want to drill into the bike to fit a sissy bar. Have you considered options that will fit on the 4 point mounts? Take a look at ebay.

I'd suggest you look at 10" to 12" bagger apes...I did KST Mayhem bars and they are 10 3/4" and I was able to use my stock wiring. I believe you can run 12" apes in most brands and still not need wiring or line extensions.

Stock bars are 1" dia, I like the 1.25" with step down for the grips. Burley, Wild Ones, Paul Yaffe, KST, LA Choppers I'm sure I'm missing a couple brands. Try a search on bagger apes
Sorry don't have advice on the Bluetooth issue.
Enjoy the ride....

Many states don't allow bars over shoulder height. I've never had that issue with my Bluetooth.

I have the same bike as you and am the same height. I first put on 14"yaffe monkey bars. They were perfect for a while, then I wanted a little taller so I put on 16's (monkey bars). The 14's were pretty much dead on shoulder height and the 16's are slightly over shoulder height. I really like the 16's but if I was going to do a cross country trip I'd stay with 14's. The install is easy, a lot fewer wires than the pre-14's had. Make sure to eliminate the green connector on the throttle wiring and solder all connections
For the sissy bar I'd probably find a used bar somewhere and have him use that for dimensions or modify it for what you want.
