yep, if possible, i would take all future buisness elsewhere.....damn stealers. i have not had my bike to the local dealer yet, but if the service is like the salesfloor, forget it. i drove 4 hours to get a decent deal on my ride. savannah hd was asking $21000 for an 05 RK Classic, and i paid less than that out the door with highway pegs, mustang seat and backrest AND the 7 year warranty. a good bit less actually.....

Paint defect issues aside, there is a good lesson to be had by reading these posts.

These days, a lot of folks seem to select their dealer by price, and price only.
I've always thought what's more important is the attitude of dealership personnel, and the quality of their service dept.
A good dealer will always be on your side. Especially if your concerns are legitimate and reasonable.

There seems to be a theme develpoing here. I recently bought a fender rack mail order from a HD dealer. When it arrived I noticed a small blemish on it where there was a splash of weld on the side of one of the bars. It wasn't a big deal to look at, but the surface was very rough and covered in tiny "bobbles". It was obvious that in a short space of time, the "bobbles" would break away, and bare steel would be exposed which would very quickly go rusty.

I phoned up to tell them, expecting them to have it replaced without any problem. The dealer told me that they would have to contact HD to see if they would authorise a replacement as it was "not policy" to replace minor blemishes. WTF?!? I'd purchased a genuine part from a dealer at genuine top-whack HD MSRP. I expected better. In this country, it is the retailer that bears responsibility for the quality of the goods they sell, not the manufacturer - so had sweet F.A. to do with HD anyway. I eventually did get it replaced after several phone calls, threats and photos, but I expected better service than this. I didn't pay an extremely large sum of money on a new bike only to be sold crap parts to go on it. I will not be buying any more HD branded add-ons; they've had my dosh!

Thanks for all the advice and recommendations everyone- I appreciate it. I am still waiting to hear back from them, but I will take everyone's advice and contact HD customer service if the dealer doesn't do anything. Thanks again!

I wish I had read this forum a year ago---Our Screamin Eagle Deuce has a spot on the lower lip of the rear fender where the Clear Coat is flaking (Within 1 year of purchase. Dealer gave us same "cosmetic" talk- and SOLD us a bottle of clear touch up paint. Should have called Customer service!!

Yeah... I fell for you Bro...
My bike went in today for the 1000 mile and the mechanic popped a ratchet into the side of my tank!
I got a call from the service manager a couple hours before I was to pick it up advising me of the issue at hand.
I must just really be blessed with the dealer I have or something. The offer to upgrade my paint since they were going replace the tank anyway, don't think I'm going to take them up on it though as I really like how it looks now.

Maybe you can get some chrome out of them instead, or cleaning polishing supplies.

Maybe you could just be content with what they offered, and that is to make it right. The tech is the one taking a beating more than likely. He'll have to replace the tank, eating the labor, for his mistake, and what ever else you settle upon, unless of course he is hourly, then its just another day.

Thats also a good point. I guess just the fact of fessing up without a fight puts a positive light on this individual.
