Default 01 Sporster 883 problem

Get this... Sometimes she starts, sometimes she don't. Usually once running I don't have any issues. A few months ago it died on me for no apparent reason while at a traffic light. After about 10 minutes of trying it fired right up. Has new coils, plugs and wires. Carbs are clean and it's getting fuel. I took it to the dealer and after $900 he replaced the throttle control and put new jets in the carbs. So the other day my daughter and I were riding about 8 miles to dinner when it died. Same thing, was getting fuel and after about ten minutes it started back up. Engine was not hot, and it ran fine after that. My question is could this be the crank position sensor? A friend of a friend has a few bikes and that was his advice however he doesn't seem to be the brightest star in the sky. Anyone have any ideas?

there are some sporty owners but the XLForum is where its at. good luck as an older bike can have corroded electric connections anywhere.
