Installed handle bar risers and bike will not start?
I installed 2 inch riser extensions on my 17 LRS, trying to save money and not do a complete handle bar swap. Everything I researched said I can raise 2" with no other modifications.
I had to pull some of the wiring out of the frame through the rubber grommet but never unplugged or disconnected any wiring or anything other than the bolts for the handlebars.
Everything seems to work fine (directional/hazards/horn/etc.) and when I turn the bike on I can hear the fuel pump come on and the lights come on. When I press the start button I get an extremely fast and loud chatter rather than the bike turning over. The sound is similar to when my battery died but in this case it is continuous and much faster. This happens if the bike is in neutral (light on and I can push it freely) or in gear with the clutch pulled.
I cannot imagine the risers causing something with the clutch that would cause this? Although I have not tried adjusting anything since installation. And the switches (on/start) 'seem' to be working fine. I plan to test their resistance but not sure what else to look at? I just got a new battery from Harley a couple weeks ago.
Ken; That's probably the same 2" rider I put on my '17 FXDLS (DK Customs)...like you, didn't need to really do anything w/wires (other than pull slack). Your video (sound) seems to be an issue w/the starter not engaging. With a new/charged battery and tight connections to your battery cables, it's probably something internal to the starter and now related to this riser install. Unfortunately you might have to get the bike trailer'd to the dealer for a looksee...warranty fix. Did you get the ACR flash on your bike (recent recall)?
I recently got it back from the dealer with a new battery and they said they flashed it due to a recall. But V&H said it is not on 621 (?) and was not updated when I called about my FP3 and that it still needed to be updated by Harley.
Seems like the risers might have had nothing to do with it. I was able to start the bike with another battery connected. No idea why the new battery would not start the bike, but I dropped it off at the dealership and asked them to do the update this time.
