Looking to buy a used sporty, has not been started for over a year? Needs a battery, do I ask owner to jump start it with old gas in tank? Do I bring some new gas and dump in a few gallons? Or just buy it and get home, drain gas, change fluids? 2008 so it's FI. WHAT should I do to b safe?

If the owner was serious about selling it he should have already put fresh gas in it and started it. A running bike is worth more than an as is project

That's the deal, getting a good price but I don't know if I should put in some fresh gas with the old, he said he did not drive it at all this summer.

If it were me, I'd want to hear it run before getting it home only to find something serious is not right. Put the fresh gas in there with a new battery. Any bad gas problems wouldn't change much there or at home. Running it will eventually push out the bad gas. If it sounds good( no loud noises) bring it home.

you can try a jump box....I'd at least want to hear it turn over an listen for weird noises. I imagine it's harder to drain the gas out of an efi bike but there's treatments for old gas to help it fire.
