Default Engine/frame compatibility

I own a 2004Softail Standard FI (FXSTSI). I was wondering if It would be possible to swap out my twin cam 88 and 5 speed for a newer 103 and 6 speed? What about the swing arm and wheel set up?

It's going to take a lot of engineering and modifying to accomplish. Not a direct bolt in swap.

Why not just build your 88? A lot less money and with more power you can change your final drive ratio so the 5 speed works better.

And there are 6-speed conversion kits available.

Thanks for the responses. I have no interest in cutting up my frame so the 103 will be ruled out. I will be looking into the options for my 88.

We have HDF sponsors who can help you, including Hillside Cycles and Fuel Moto, both of them with various tuning packages. Also S&S offer their T111 replacement engine, as well as a 124" and, if they are still not quite enough, a 143"! Plenty of choice available, of proven upgrades.

I don't know about softails but suspect that the swap works if you use motor/tranny/primary. You can swap a 07 up bagger motor/tranny/primary into a 06-earlier bagger as long as you keep the motor/tranny/primary together.
