So thinking about getting this. I see it says efi models.require recalibration and some other recalibration required. Do I have to get this done by Harley or is this something I can do?
Will it do any harm if I install and get tuned/calibrated a week later? Thanks
If you have/get one of the many brands of tuners available, you can download a canned map based on your air cleaner and exhaust, cams, etc you can take care of it yourself.

Thanks. Geez on top of the cleaner kit( several hundred $$) I need to buy tuner that I'm sure is another several hundred bucks. Ouch..lol.
The big question is are you ready to give up your warranty if you have any left? The big sucker your looking at should have a tuner to richen up your fuel system some. Your already running super lean and a wasted dealer download will still leave you super lean. The V&H FP3 tuner is a very good do it yourself tuner for the money. It will improve a stock bike all the way up to cams, intake and exhaust. You will spent upwards of $2000.00 doing a proper stage one upgrade. The FP3 has tunes for upgrades as you do them, so yes a tuner is one of the first things you need.
The old way was that you could get away with changing just slip on mufflers, but once you changed the air cleaner as well (essentially what is called a stage 1) you would need to recalibrate. That used to be able to be achieved by a dealer download to the ECM on the cheaper side or purchasing a tuner. I’m not sure if dealers even offer the downloads anymore. There are tuners that are less expensive than others that will work for minimalistic changes, but are limited if you start making a bunch of changes and wanted to dyno tune.

Yup, this. I put on slipons at purchase and then wanted to do an aircleaner as well, but they told me that I'd have to also get a tuner (HD only if you're under warranty) and then a dyno session. So like $2000 is about right. I opted to leave the slipons on and call it good.
