I have just purchased a fatboy 2007. I was changing the gear linkage. Job done.
Went to put the bike in neutral and it doesn’t seem to find it. When I go up the gears there only appears to be finding about 3. Further more I tried to start the bike and it won’t start. It jumps forward like it’s in gear!!
I only did this once but something is wrong obviously!!
What is is going on??? I hope I haven’t damaged anything whilst installing the new gear linkage.
Any help will be really appreciated. I’m really struggling to find a solution.
can you sit on the machine, key off, and rock it back and forth while finding the gears?
the newer style of clutch spring isn't like the older ones and the clutch will drag without the engine running. sometimes if you really push hard, it will allow you the push not running and in gear, if the plates separate (clutch pulled in of coarse).
once you establish this, then look at linkage throw and ratio.
It sounds like your linkage is in a bind & not allowing the trans shifter arm to return to it's center position. Try loosening the bolts on the linkage & see it your problem goes away.

Bob.. Was the bike shifting and performing normally before you "changed the gear linkage"? If so, then why were you "changing the gear linkage"....that is....what were you trying to accomplish?
