General Topics/Tech TipsDiscussion on break in periods, rider comfort, seats and pad suggestions. Tech tips as they become available will be posted here.
I had noticed a slight ringing coming from my front brakes/rotors area when pushing my 04 Road Glide backwards to park. It has stock rotors btw.
I decided to install new pads and bought EBC V-Pad, semi sintered pads and replaced the worn ones.
With the new pads the ringing has gotten louder! Is this dangerous? Are my rotors badly warped? The brakes function great the new pads really helped. Any advice would be welcome, thanks.
I'm guessing , that ringing you here is probably the pads rubbing on the disc and causing the sound you are hearing .
Did you clean the caliper cylinders before you installed the pads ? The cylinders may not be backing off as they should causing the pads to press against the disc more than they should .
You can expect a little drag from the pads , but too much can cause over heating of the rotor , causing it to warp .
Did you put anything on the back of the pads and locking pin to prevent them from " squeaking " such as anti seize ?
Did You do a brake flush/Bleed or just change pads ? When was the last time it was done ?
I didn't clean the clapper cylinders...I just used my air compressor to remove the dust.
I have not done the brakes before...I only did the pads, not the fluids. it was time, not sure of the real history of the maintenance done unfortunately.
