I went with a 1.625" lift I made myself after purchasing the 1.5" from DK. By far one of my favorite mods I have done. Positives are the way it looks IMO and the ease of cleaning the rocker covers. I also love the way it makes the bike feel while sitting in the seat. It feels more aggressive with the tank being higher. The only negative is that I lost maybe 10 miles of usable gas. I only wish I could go higher, but the tank comes close to hitting the bars with them turned. Maybe 1/4". If I ever change the bars, I will definately go higher. I did have an issue with my vent tube. I ended up having to use some 9/32" gas line to make a longer distance and it kinked once the tank cover was back on which caused inadequate venting which caused fuel to be pressurized out of my gas cap when I filled up. The solution was to use my stock molded tubing and simply add a piece of steel tube and a small piece of rubber tubing to make up the distance. All was good once I did that. Go for it
Has anyone had any issues after raising their tank? Seems like it will pull on the wiring harness a bit. It also may change the fuel gauge .
We have not seen a bike yet that did not have the extra wire in the harness to go at least 3". Sometimes you need to cut a zip tie where the factory has bundled up the extra wiring to get the length.
On 14 and later models HD finally got an accurate fuel gauge. That gauge works well in stock or lifted position.
Prior to '14 models the gauges are hit and miss with NO tank lift. On those bikes it is best to use the odometer, or make adjustments for how far off the gauge is. On those bikes, after a tank lift, learn the new adjustment and you'll be fine.
Did a 1 1/2” lift on my 2011 Ultra Classic CVO. Best advantage was less heat on the inside of my thighs, Also helps a small amount with wind buffering. Some air flows over the top of the engine. Bike looks better with rocker covers exposed, and easy to keep clean. With the Ultra was a very simple job. Strongly recommend.
Living in hot SoCal I've done mods to keep engine temps down and the air deflector / tank lift kit really does help - Imo.
My 2013 HD FLHTK goes into high temp limp mode less often with it installed.
