Default Changing out Heated grips

I want to get rid of the OEM heated grips I have on my 2011 Ultra Limited FLHTK, and replace with a normal set
of grips (non-heated) I live in Florida, I have no need for heated grips, but I am not really sure how to remove them !!

Anyone please have any ideas as to how to remove these things, would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks again

They are wired through the inside of the handlebars and have plug connectors inside the fairing. You have to remove the outer fairing and unplug them. Then you have to remove the grips and pull the wires through and out. The right grip is through the TBW which has a dust boot that goes in its place. This LINK instructs the install....just reverse it.

Dawg,
I really appreciate the info, but question for you, I was reading somewhere that in order to remove the heated grips, that I would have
to actually remove the handlebars from the bike...is this an accurate statement ???

I really don't want to remove the bars if at all possible, thanks for the info..

Not necessarily. If you unplug them from under the fairing and make sure the wires are free from obstacle until the point where they enter the hole in the bottom of the bars, you should be able to gently pull them out through the ends of the handlebar. I would de-pin them from the connectors prior to pulling them out (easier to get by the green clip connector of the TBW halfway up the right side). You probably don’t have any other wiring inside the bars unless you or someone internally wired the controls so it should be fairly easy to gently pull them out.

Thanks a bunch Dawg, I was talking with another friend, and he suggested that if I didn't want the grips any longer, to just cut off the end cap connectors! Then pulling out the wires should not be an issue.

All I have to do now if find the right replacement grips, cuz my bike also has ETC ( electronic throttle control) so hopefully it won't be to difficult to find a good set of grips.

If that’s the case, just leave the wiring and everything in the bars and change out the grips. Cut the wiring at the grip and pop them off. You’ll still want to unplug the connectors under the fairing. The right side has the wiring with the twist grip sensor so if you were to pull it out through, those would stay in anyway. Just best to leave both sides in there. The wires with the TBW aren’t used with bikes that don’t have heated grips so no issue leaving that alone. You can see it circled in the pic.
