Dig the can and the idea. Wondering if there is a quick release type of mount for the can so you dont have to remove the clamp every time you want to dump it. Just a thought.

Good call , I've been thinking about that . I'm going to have to make up another type bracket that goes around the frame tube , so there will be a bolt there that I can remove to dump it . You've given me something to think about though , got to be something out there , first thought was using a pipe clamp like the ones holding the slip-ons , but again , another bolt to undo . I'm still a day away from mounting the canister , maybe I'll come up with a better idea .
Thanks for these ideas , I really like the idea of the quick release clamp , going to order the 2" version and see if I can make it work . Maybe fastening some thick rubber matting to take up some space will help hold the canister in place ...
Help ! I picked up some fittings to attach to the backing plate , but I'm not entirely sure exactly what size drill bit and tap I need to get this done . I've done tapping once or twice , but lets just say I got lucky . I do plan on doing a trial run on a piece of scrap metal first before I tackle the backing . If for any reason I blow this part of the mod , I'm fully prepared to purchase a new one , I won't like it , but I will .
The receipt shows this part as a Coupler 1 4 HB X 1 8 MPT . Not exactly sure what this means , other than the size . Here's a pic of it also . Sure wish I new how to make these pics smaller ...
Appreciate the response Dawg , got the backing plate done today and ran the braided hose down around the air cleaner to a T fitting , for a minute there I was ready to give up and toss everything , but I took a deep breath and got that part done . Now , I have to figure out where I'm going to run the rest of the hose , don't want it to be touching any part of the engine in case it melts the hose , don't know . Tomorrow should be a challenging day , still trying to figure out how and where I'm going to mount the canister .
Next question , Should I go with the filter or a catch can ? Is the only purpose for the catch can is so you don't have to keep replacing the filter , educate me please .
The Shovelhead opinion is usually run a hose toward the ground, Air movement is one direction away from the motor. A filter will clog and why would you want to restrict exit of unwanted air/fluid mix. I'm agreeing with them thinkers, I also agree with putting some effort into not leaving oil spots everywhere I park. So im most interested in the catchcan part of the discussion.

Exactly , which is why I'm putting in the extra effort . I didn't want to use a filter for that exact reason and I don't want to be spitting oil out over the place . I keep my oil level a couple ounces or so lower than spec so I never have an air filter that drips oil , but I do see some carbon and a nice oily film on everything when I remove the air filter . I'd hate to see what my engine looks like inside only after 20k miles , should have done this sooner .
Well , that's it for now , the only thing I have left to do is change the black high temp hose for some steel braided hose , maybe I won't , who knows . I was able to spend the afternoon in the shop working without any interruptions , amazing what you can get done on days like this . Most of the afternoon was deciding what / how I was going to mount the canister , found an old back rest bracket and with some slight modifications I made it work . I decided to ditch the big clamp and put a bolt through the canister to mount it to the bracket , worked out ok . One thing I am going to do is put a small d-clamp on the bolt of the push rod base to hold the hose in place .
