Default Slick Gloves

I have a pair of 20 year old leather gloves that are super comfortable and warm. The problem is that the leather is so slick that I have to grip the throttle tight enough that my hand gets tired. Is there anything that can be applied to the leather to give me better grip?

In the winter, my hands get dried out. So bad that I have trouble separating a sheet of paper from a small stack of papers, opening new plastic bags, and keeping a grip on any smooth surface. After a small amount of moisturizer, things get back to normal. Try a little mink oil on your gloves to reduce the slipping.

I bought a pair of waxed boot laces to replace the worn ones one a favorite pair of boots. Never tried waxed laces before. Now I won't buy anything but. They just don't slip and come undone! I wonder what wax would do on your gloves? Baseball and football players use "tacky grip". Hmmnnn...

The pair of Fly Racing Ignitor heated gloves I have had for several years have become slick. They keep my hands warm but my hands begin to cramp up since I have to grip tighter. The leather has become 'polished', and I've tried using ScotchBrite and emery cloth to roughen the leather up, didn't help much.

Might look into that tacky grip stuff.

I read this on another forum. Maybe I wasn't too far off on the wax idea.

clean the leather with rubbing alcohol to remove any slippery oils that were used on it then scuff it with a brillo pad or even sandpaper. clean again with rubbing alcohol then let it sit over night. then treat it with leather wax to make it waterproof/durable/grippy.

I'm wondering what kind of grips you have on your bike. Could be part of the problem too. I have the large rail type on mine. Bigger so I don't have to close my hand so much and the rubber rails help with the grip. Ribbed, for my comfort too!

I have Grip Puppies over the stock Harley grips. The only gloves I have a grip problem with are the Ignitors.

Those are interesting. They look to be a closed cell foam? I have something similar on my "flip over" jack handle. I had slippery hands the other day (brake fluid residue) and my hand slid right off it. Almost dropped my bike!

They work pretty well, although the first set I had after a couple of years did become smoother from wear so I replaced them with the set currently on the bike. This set isn't even a year old, and as I said I have no grip problems with any of the other gloves I have.

I'm not a big person so my hands aren't all that large so I have to have a smaller diameter grip or my hands will cramp up. The Grip Puppies work in that regard as they aren't all that thick and are just slid over the stock Harley grips.
