Proper solder technique
2002 Electra Glide Classic
Need to replace volume control switch in my left handlebar switch set. I think it will require connecting the 4 wires on the switch to the cable harness and insulating the connections.
I'm sure I'm not the first person to do this. Connections need to be as small as possible inside the switch housing.
I'm thinking just push the stripped wires together and butt solder then shrink wrap.
Any better ideas will be considered.

Look up the term " straight solder " , not sure if that's what you are doing , but I use this technique on most of my work , just be sure , if you can , stagger your joints , so it doesn't make a huge bundle in one spot . Another thing I do is double insulate the solder , the second peace of shrink tubing is longer the first . While you solder , try not to let the solder creep into the wire insulation , that's when you lose flexibility and may cause your solder to break over time .
Good luck with your repair .

When I need to replace the handlebar switches on my Ultra, I remove the pins from the connector and pull the wire out of the conduit. Then I remove the switch. crimp new pins on the new switch, run the wires through the conduit and re-insert the pins into the connector.
