Default brake switch replacement

F'ed up my front brake switch this last weekend and I now have to replace it. It is my understanding that I will have to cut and solder in the new switch. My biggest concern is exactly how far back from the switch so I cut and splice the wires? Should I do it right next to the switch?

For those who have done this, any tips to make this easier would be appreciated. Chris.

It should be obvious when you open the switch housing. Look where the wires are stuffed in the housing. There ain't a lot of extra room in there. Plan it so that the wires can be stuffed in there with the most room possible where you soldered because that's where the wires will be the fattest. Use a thin heat shrink and plan for that too.

Thanks. Got it all wrapped up. I cut the old switch off leaving about 3/4 inch of exposed wire from the harness. I then stripped off 1/4 inch (maybe less) of insulation. On the new switch I cut off all but about 2 inched of wire and stripped them two. Solder and heatshrink. I was able to get it all back together without much problem, but man it is tight, just like you said.
